Book is released - Amazon - Barnes and Noble

Six Weeks with Shelby is an adventure and journey of two people, Shelby and Jon Barry. What begins in Carrabelle, Florida in early October and ends in late November of 2010, portrays a short business relationship between photographer and model in the beginning, to very best friends, by trip's end. Though this book is about the intense photographic artwork they made, their story is about the times they had and the very close relationship they developed over these six weeks as they traveled from Florida through seven states to Louisiana.

I read this book "Six Weeks with Shelby", and I loved it...It's a true adventures story of a professional photographer and his model who traveled together to create great images together. It shows a lot of different characters, people they met, places they visited, and beautiful photography from the beginning to the end.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure and romance...
Thank you Jon Berry for sharing it with us.

I have to admit to some level of previous knowledge, as I have known Jon Barry from his photographic work for years. He has shown his intensity for perfection in his new book as he has always shown with his superb photos. I was excited about being one of the first to purchase his new eBook "Six Weeks With Shelby."

Being a person who has followed Jon's photographic genius on the Internet and most recently on his website and Facebook; it was clear his book was going to be a great read. There are few words that can describe fully the wonderful photos he and Shelby produced during their time together.

Now after almost a year of work, Jon Barry has put the adventure on paper. Since downloading the ePub from Amazon I have read it twice from cover to cover. The book is loaded with personal observations and little details that are worth going back for a second reading.

I hope this will not be the only book Jon writes. He is as talented a writer as he is a photographer and that is really talented. This is one of those books that once you start it, you don't want to stop until it is over. Then you wish it could go on forever.

"Six Weeks With Shelby" is Highly Recommended Reading. EC

I was flattered to be one of a handful to read this book BEFORE its official release, and it left me breathless and amazed! The story of Jon and Shelby, of the adventures of a photographer on the road, the emotion that stirred and how my heart yearned for more story....this is what every good book should be!

Jon's storytelling is wonderous, and he makes it absolutely impossible to stop reading. The words flow and make it such a joy to read. AND, let's not forget the beautiful photos. This is a storybook like NONE you've ever seen/read. I would recommend it over and over again (and actually have).

Good things will come from "Six Weeks with Shelby"! I look forward to seeing more from Jon Barry!

This seemed to be a real story from the heart. First and foremost it told a saga of passion for allegiance to artistic integrity.
Secondly, it let the reader see into the soul of an aging gentlemen who shared his innermost feelings and vunerabilties that dwell in the psyche of all who have deep feelings.

The descriptions of location and settings throughout the story were as vivid as the beautiful photography interspersed between the chapters.

After this read I certainly wanted more from this true artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art Meets Love, August 16, 2011

This review is from: Six Weeks with Shelby (Kindle Edition)

"Shelby was 18, from Daytona, Florida, a recent cosmetology graduate, and she was broke. I was an aging photographer of 66 from Louisiana."

From these very first lines, the author Jon B. Barry, draws the reader into his world - a tumultuous world of unexpected love , of loss, redemption, and lastly grace. Drawing on his experience as an artist with the camera and a painter of light, Barry weaves a tale that is as visually stunning in its prose, as those that he has told for decades with his camera lens. Refreshing in its honesty, and dripping with raw emotion that shows the connection of between the work of an artist and the nature of his soul, the work opens up the closet door to reveal the world of fine art nude photography and shows its soaring beauty, as well as its ugliness. It also reveals that for some, art is just another name for love, and reminds that love chooses us instead of the other way around.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fine book, August 16, 2011

This is a one-of-a-kind book, written from the perspective of a master photographer with respect to his experiences working with young ladies to create visual works of art. The story flows seamlessly from beginning to end. It is easy to read, educational and very enjoyable.

The author brings his subjects to life, from the lovely central character of Shelby, to each location in their journey. The prose are pleasing, and I felt as if I were with them as they moved from town to town. The story is rich, with each recollection providing insights into a provocative and surprising tale.

Note: this is a non-fiction work, and is proof that fact is more riveting than fiction. Jon Barry creates an uplifting tale of interaction with a lovely, full-of-life young lady as they live out a dream of travel throughout the deep South. This is a happy book, filled with happy people, places and things. A must read!

A friend of mine suggested I read Six Weeks with Shelby. We often trade advice on books and movies, so I was shocked when she said it was a different kind of love story and non-fiction on top of that. Since I value her judgement I went ahead and bought the book on Amazon. I will be honest in that I didn't think I would like it because I typically don't like those kind of books. She was right it is a different kind of love story.

I at first got into the book because it was about the real world of photography and modeling practiced by real people. I was fascinated by the amount of work that photographer and model went through to get their shots. It was a real eye opener and especially for anyone who has dabbled in photography and thought, gee wouldn't it be nice to make a living this way. By the end of the book I really was interested in Shelby and Jon and I really wanted to know how it continued, did their plans come true and what became of them. They had hooked me and I was in.

The author is a very good storyteller, a page turner as I found I was reading later then I should, but it was hard for me to put down. My best barometer of whether a book is good or not is if I do not want to stop reading. I finished this book in about 3 days, it seemed I always wanted to read one more page. I heartily recommend this book, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have read this book and loved the story and loved the pictures. I enjoyed following the journey from Florida to Louisiana, to the Smokies and back. It is a fast read, because you can't wait to find out what happens next. There are beautiful images of the country side, and of Shelby, who is a very beautiful young woman. Her continuing wonder at seeing new things and having an adventure is inspiring. Enjoy!

Andrew says:

You can't call me unbiased because I'm a friend of the author and helped design the book. What Jon says is true - this story is unique. It's unique because it is practically a verbatim diary of the six week journey, and the best stories are the true ones. It has humour, insight, taboo, romance and pathos. The book took a long time to write, I remember Jon's original publishing target was mid January. It was going to be a photography book with a supporting dialogue, but as things progressed it became clear that good as the photos are, the story stood on it's own, indeed deserved to be told on it's own. I've read the book several times through its various drafts. Even in it's first form it was a fantastic read, but with time and editorial assistance it has become an easier read, whilst loosing nothing of it's original charm and "can't put it down" appeal. In fact, that is the comment most people make when they read it, and I'm sure you will too. Oh, and the photos... well, see for yourself!

It is a very good quick read. Each page keeps you wanting to know what is on the next. The photography are impressive and help the story along.
