The Journey

This page is dedicated to some of the areas we traveled, and though the photos which make up the below galleries are not about Shelby and I, they are totally about the places we visited and worked in. The majority of the work is by me, however over the course of the trip, Shelby became a fairly good photographer. She has an especially good eye and is very capable at framing her images. There are many images in the photos which make up the galleries for the book which Shelby took..

Carrabelle
Florida, where the pam meets the handle.

picture

I found Carrabelle on Memorial Day weekend of 2010. For reference, it is situated where the pan meets the handle on the Gulf Coast. I was working with a model near Tallahassee at the Honey Lake Plantation, and the insects were biting her terribly. We tried and tried to find places on the plantation that were bug free, and had no success at all. I had a few days more to work with her and things were not going well. We looked at the Florida map for places where we might go and spotted Carrabelle. Based on what appeared to be a sparsely populated area and on the Gulf coast, we made the decision to go there and check it out.

I was invited to Spartanburg, SC to visit with my brother and sister over the last few days of October, 2010. Shelby and I had worked together in Carrabelle, FL and she asked could she go. We were wanting to shoot the fall colors of the Carolinas and in the foothills of the Smokies. I fetched her in Daytona and and we drove through northern Florida and through Savannah, GA on our way there.

Birmingham
Alabama, home of Fort Gregory!

picture

I often go to Birmingham, AL to visit with my good friend Steve Gregory. I was bringing Shelby with me following our stay in Spartanburg, SC and from where she was to fly home to Daytona on November 5. Steve and I had a shoot lined up with a model from Tallahassee, FL arriving the day Shelby was leaving. Shelby wanted to stay and work together with Steve and I. We cancelled Brielle, drove to Birmingham early, and worked with Steve.

What needs to be said about New Orkeans..nothing!

picture

Shelby wanted to see New Orleans and she had two opportunities to go there, once with me for an all day excursion, and at another time when worked with a good friend of mine, Laurie Mauerman of Hammond, LA. For our trip both Shelby and I took tons of photos and had a fantastic time.

We had the opportunity to get to know each other very well in Baton Rouge. Shelby is very gregarious and does well with others, regardless of their age. She met some of my friends as well as got re-acquainted with my family.

We were both curious about the damage from the oil spill from the BP Macondo Rig. I have a cousin who loaned us his camp there. We spent the last days of our trip together there on the island.
